Beginnings
After experience in transportation and twelve years exporting food items, Dán Preben Nielsen decided to set out independently, and in 1972, he and his wife Juttine formed the company NOWACO. The company at that time began with one employee, and the name was inspired by Juttine’s maiden name Nowak. The Nielsens had its first office in the attic of their home, which had to give up for their first-born daughter.![]() |

Their own office
The company then moved to a new building and it began a phase of dynamic expansion. In 1977, the offices moved to a yet bigger building to make room for the increased number of employees. Here, the company stayed for three years up to 1980, when again they moved to their current location at Kon Chr. Allé in Aalborg. Development and renovation during the successful years made this location attractive and a great working atmosphere for over 30 employees. The high level of qualified workers and monitoring market principles guaranteed the company continuous development.

In 1988, an office opened in Hamburg specializing in selected Eastern European and Balkan markets, as well as in the German domestic market.
In 1990, NOWACO was one of the first companies to engage in business with the emerging Eastern European countries. “The man in Prague” became Bohumil Volf (today's general manager of Nowaco Czech Republic, s.r.o.). The original idea was the agricultural product export. Time showed however that import is a much more interesting activity than export. Very soon the need for new employees became evident, and in 1992 the company NOWACO Czechoslovakia s.r.o. was formed.
During the 1990s there arose further distribution branches in Slovakia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Latvia and in St. Petersburg, Russia.
NOWACO became known worldwide in the area of export, import, manufacture and distribution of food products and agricultural crops, operating on three continents.

Today
NOWACO in the Czech Republic took a leading role in the distribution of frozen, chilled and fresh food products. From its two distribution depots, food is distributed to the even the most remote corners of the country six times a week, with 200 distribution vehicles each day taking 800 metric tons of products to our customers. Every day, our plant in Opava produces tons of products, from potato croquets to assortments of prepared meals and vegetable mixes, all the way to the beloved ice cream treats under our PRIMA brand name. We distribute over 7 metric tons of fresh meat and meat products every day from our plant NOWAMEAT in Kralupy nad Vltavou. The capacity of the packaging department of fresh and frozen fish at the Kralupy plant covers the need for the entire NOWACO group. All production and processing operations are under regular hygienic control, and fulfill the most stringent hygienic standards and regulations. Even prior to the CR’s entrance into the EU, NOWACO invested heavily in reconstruction and erecting new operations centers, so that the modern production lines fulfill the high requirements of supervisory organs and our customers too.Today, we’re capable of storing over 25,000 pallets of goods across the Czech Republic, which would represent 780 fully filled freight trucks that would create a line of truck 15 kilometers long.

Our strength isn’t in just our background, but mainly in experienced and professional management. It may sound cliché, but this fact brought NOWACO to the top. And beyond our indisputable success, we’ll never forget those who helped us build this company – our customers. A satisfied customer is clearly the most basic condition of our success and the aim of all our efforts.
